Renewing a driver's license may take longer.
A driver's license or ID card is required to apply for homestead exemption. The ID or license must have your current home address where the exemption is being applied.
Effective July 1, 2012, to update your license, additional documents are now required to meet federal standards for the Secure ID Driver's License and ID Card. These documents must prove identity and include social security number and proof of residential address. Simply having an existing license or ID is not sufficient for renewal.
Not everyone has all the documents readily available. Get started early to ensure you have been allowed plenty of time to retrieve them before the April 1st deadline to apply for homestead exemption.
